Windmill, Wirral Peninsula. Grade 2 Listed. Circa 1802

Cheshire Lime Ltd were tasked with Lime Plastering, Lime Pointing and Lime Washing plus a few other aspects of the restoration work being undertaken on the largest and most historically important Windmill on the Wirral Peninsula.

It was with great pride that Cheshire Lime Ltd accepted the challenges set by this imposing and fascinating landmark.

A 3 coat Lime Plaster was specified in one of the main rooms internally. Every element was custom hot-mixed at ground level and hoisted up by hand (around 5tons!)

Applying the plaster within such a large space, where everything is a compound curve, was no mean feat.

A new walk-in wardrobe was constructed and Wood Wool Boards affixed as the intended carrier for new Lime Plaster.

Hair from the owners horses was added to some of the Lime Plaster to provide an appropriate personal touch

New Timber windows installed throughout the property required a well-haired lime plaster to fill and finish the gaps between the existing brickwork .

The Lime re-pointing had already been started by another contractor but we were brought in to provide a higher of quality finish.

(Time, weather and other priorities on the project mean this awaits completion in 2024).

We are justifiably proud of our involvement in this project.

Cheshire Lime Ltd carries fully comprehensive public liability insurance which is tailored specifically to deal with Listed and historic structures. This combined with our experience allows us to tackle sensitive projects like these with confidence.

We would love to hear from You
