Damp Assessment & Remediation

There are many causes of Damp in a building.

  • Penetrating Damp
  • Internal / External Leaks
  • Surface Condensation / Interstitial Condensation
  • Cement and Non-Breathable / Inappropriate Materials
  • Hygroscopic Salts
  • Poor Ventilation
  • Rising Damp (Capillary Action)

Inappropriate Materials which can cause Damp in traditional buildings include:

  • Cement Pointing and Render
  • Injectable Damp Proof Course
  • Impermeable Plasters and Tanking
  • Concrete Slabs
  • Damp Proof Membranes
  • Dot and Dab Plasterboard
  • Impermeable Paints
  • Spray Foam Insulation
  • Silicone Sealant

Despite claims of modern benefits, these materials regularly cause a host of symptoms:

  • Spalled bricks and Masonry
  • Damage to Timber Frames
  • Mould
  • Wet and Dry Rot
  • Woodworm
  • Bubbling Plaster
  • Salt Bloom
  • Condensation
  • Wet Walls

These materials have found their way into our buildings for one reason or another. Government incentive, ready availability, the promise of an easy fix.. It all adds up to point where a building can longer manage its moisture and becomes ‘sick’.

This, sadly, can make us sick, with condensation and mould being an all too regular issue. This is one reason why we so passionately believe in the services and materials we supply.

We can help remove these inappropriate materials and re-instate the correct breathable materials, taking care not to cause more damage than is being remedied.

Occasionally, these changes require a slight adjustment in our habits to ensure optimum results, allowing us to live harmoniously within our chosen environments. We are here to support that.
