Our sawn Douglas Fir Laths are made from the finest quality timber. Always in stock for immediate despatch or collection.
They are purposefully Sawn from ‘green’ timber before being seasoned; This results in a lath with a more textured surface offering the perfect background for traditional Lime Plastering.
Straight grained and quarter sawn they offer the greatest resistance to spliting, warping and cupping.
Douglas Fir out-shines many of the more expensive options. Technical benefits include excellent flexibility, rough texture, rot resistance, insect repellency and low frequency of knots.

We recommend spacing the laths between 6mm and 8mm apart. This allows a proper ‘nib’ of Lime Plaster to pass through affording a secure attachment.
6mm is the most historically accurate thickness for laths and allows greater flexibility of the lath without compromising strength. It also means a sensible thickness of plaster to cover the laths where the ends are overlapped to prevent cracking at joins
We recommend soaking the laths before attaching using our traditional cut nails. We then recommend wetting the laths again before plastering to control suction and prevent overly rapid drying.
